Crisis Line Worker/Emergency Outreach Screener

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the assigned Shift Supervisor and Director of Clinical Services. Responsible for providing telephone crisis intervention or intake services according to the standards established and provides emergency screenings for clients who are at risk of harm to self or others due to psychiatric symptoms.

Job Functions

  1. Assess calls to determine if the caller/client is presenting a mental health crisis.
  2. Maintain a professional approach throughout the duration of the call.
  3. Provide critical information to support other human services personnel, i.e. police, EMS, and other such personnel responding to the crisis.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to document information in a clear, concise, and professional standard.
  5. Provide emergency screenings for clients who are determined to be in need of screening for:
    - Corpus Christi Office: BHC of Nueces County and Coastal Plains MHMR (Training provided)
    - Tyler Office: Andrews Center MHMR. (Training provided)

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the behavioral health field (i.e. social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, etc.) or a Bachelor's degree with 30 hours of helping-profession coursework.
  2. Computer literate with a typing speed at least 40 WPM.
  3. Must possess a valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance.
  4. Must be able to utilize equipment such as computers, faxes, copiers, etc.
  5. Be able to function in an inbound call center environment.
